COMMUNITY SPIRIT DONATION GRANT PROGRAM HELPS ENDOWMENTS GROW
The Province of Alberta through its Community Spirit Donation Grants Program has granted the Bow Valley Community Foundation $15,878.60 to help grow its endowments as well as cover part of its overhead.  The majority of these funds will be credited to the Rockies Ride for Kids Fund in keeping with the matching of donations principal. The eventual beneficiaries will be the children of the Bow Valley. An example of what these funds will go towards is detailed in the story of the Foundations first grant to PSST.
This is an ongoing program of the Province of Alberta and is of great benefit to our community. The program falls under Lindsay Blackett, Minister of Culture and Community Spirit, MLA, Calgary – Northwest.
The program matches cash donations by individuals up to a maximum of $25,000.00 per applicant per year to a maximum of $50,000.00 over a three year period. By use of various Government of Alberta incentives a $100.00 donation made by an individual Alberta resident allows the charity to benefit by up to $200.00 at a net cost to the donor of as little as $50.00.
To take advantage of this opportunity to multiply your donations please contact us at info@bowvallycf.org .

BOW VALLEY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION MAKES FIRST GRANT
The Rockies Ride for Kids Fund approved a grant of $2,000.00 to the Parents of Children with Special Needs Support Team (known as PSST).  This unique program is designed to make available skiing and snow boarding to children with physical or mental disabilities. The program is held at and supported by Sunshine Village. It was started in 2001 by concerned parents and has grown from 2 participants to 21.  It operated under the direction of Sunshine Village adaptive program coordinator Jamie McCulloch.
“We’ve had great feedback from parents about the program helping their kids with other life endeavours, so it’s important that we continue offering it when there’s a need.  And it’s a great sign to see that these men are committed to helping out local kids.” Said Jamie.
“We choose recipients based on character, ability and need,” said Rob Jones. “And the PSST has met all three factors.  Our mandate is to fund less fortunate children, and this phenomenal program fits within the scope of what we’re trying to achieve.”
The fund was established three years ago by Mike Kuzik, Rob Jones and Greg Manktelow.  Each year they are joined by fellow cyclists in what they call the Parkway Parade of Pain to raise funds for this endowment.  Although the figures for the current years ride are not available as yet, it is expected that the fund will exceed $125,000.00 once the final tally is in.
The Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing- Alberta helped facilitate this funding and we wish to thank them for that.
If you are interested in donating to this endowment, or to find out more about it, contact us at info@bowvallycf.org . Donations can be made to this or any other endowment fund at anytime. All donations will recieve a registered charitable rerciept that can be used for income tax purposes.
